Prior to becoming a health coach, I earned my BA in Anthropology, with formal study in Psychology and Anatomy, from Barnard College, Columbia University. My career started in marketing at Time Life Books in London and continued in a corporate direction until I could no longer ignore my lifetime interest in alternative medicine.

An interest in helping people solve back pain led me to spend three years becoming a certified teacher of The Alexander Technique, graduating in 2000 from The American Center for the Alexander Technique. An accomplished practitioner of Energy Medicine, I am also skilled at Acupressure techniques for stress and phobia relief.

I furthered my healing training at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I graduated in 2004 and became certified as a health coach by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I appeared in an article in Natural Living Today magazine and in a video with actor William Hurt, entitled “Solutions for Back Trouble with Deborah Caplan.”

I am 38 and live and practice on the Upper East Side of New York City. My health coaching practice focuses on personal empowerment through comprehensive wellness and healing including mouthwatering nutrition.

Dynamic personal empowerment comes from a balance of career, exercise, family life, and holistic nutrition. My professional support helps clients make improvements in these areas that are sustainable. The busy professionals I work with benefit from enhanced personal energy, relief from stress, and true balance in life.

I specialize in helping clients reach ideal weight, infertility and menopause nutrition and in general creating balance and health within the lives of busy executives whose time pressures are often at the breaking point.

The coaching style I use includes powerful doses of change-producing drive and inspiration. My coaching is delivered with a calm gentleness that derives from my practice in meditation and energy work and my seven years of experience working with clients in private sessions. The aim of the sessions is healthful change. Transformation happens at a rapid but centered pace using the extensive tools at my disposal.

Health coaching is, simply put, my ideal career. I started researching the use of vitamins at age 16, which led to interests in herbal medicine and health and healing from a holistic vantage point. health coaching is the glue that holds together all of my varied studies. My experience as a dancer up through college taught me many things about the mind/body connection that were refined with my later studies in anatomy, nutrition and the Alexander Technique.

In addition to my thriving multi-discipline practice I also enjoy martial arts, horseback riding, dance, opera and things that involve heights such as sky diving and mountain climbing. I periodically donate my time and skill at therapeutic, horseback riding programs for the disabled. I also enjoy cooking and come from a food-obsessed family with a sister that went to cooking school and who is now a food writer – a collaborative book is in the making.
